National symposium on modern design coming to Sarasota

"MODERN MATTERS" CONFERENCE HERE IN APRIL

Docomomo, an organization whose acronym stands for "Documentation and Conservation of the Modern Movement," will hold its 2013 national symposium April 18-21 at Ringling College of Art + Design in Sarasota.

The theme is "Modern Matters."

The group was formed to promote awareness and preservation of modernist architecture.

About 150 Docomomo US members will tour examples of "Sarasota School" architecture, including several houses in Lido Shores and Paul Rudolph's addition to Sarasota High School, which is about to undergo renovation.

The symposium will feature presentations by Docomomo US chapters, as well as selected individuals, regarding their efforts around the country. A keynote address will be held at the Herald-Tribune building on Main Street in Sarasota.

The University of Florida's Historic Preservation Program is co-producing the event. Information: docomomo-us.org.

PULTE OPENS NEW PHASE AT HARRISON RANCH

Pulte Homes has opened a new phase of home sites at Harrison Ranch, 5755 Harrison Ranch Blvd., off U.S. 301 in Parrish.

Sean Strickler, vice president of sales for Pulte Homes in the North Florida region, said home sites offer wide spaces, nature preserve views or water views.

The Westin floor plan has four to six bedrooms and two-and-a-half to four baths in 2,598 to 2,686 square feet of living space. It is priced from $202,990. Features include a task room, game room and " flex" room.

Houses at Harrison Ranch range from 1,447 to 3,476 square feet, with from three to seven bedrooms, two to four baths, two- or three-car garages and are priced from $154,990 to $245,990.

TAYLOR MORRISON NAMES ESPLANADE COURSE ARCHITECT

Taylor Morrison has hired C.W. Golf Architecture to direct the development of courses at Esplanade Golf and Country Club at Lakewood Ranch and Esplanade Golf and Country Club of Naples. Headed by veteran designer Chris Wilczynski, the firm has been tapped to oversee the creation of two 18-hole championship courses that are slated to open in 2014.

Based in Ann Arbor, Mich., Wilczynski has been in the business of golf-course design for 20 years and was an award-wining partner and design associate with Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates for two decades. His credits include sites in California, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, Virginia, New York, Colorado and Tennessee.

He worked on the renovation of Forest Glen Golf and Country Club in Naples, the master plan for Stoneybrook Golf Club in Sarasota, and the development of River Strand Golf Club and Stoneybrook Golf Club at Heritage Harbor in Bradenton.
