GARDENING CALENDAR
a. The Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society is planning its 48th Annual Hibiscus Show on Saturday, April 20, at the Woodmere Park and Recreation Center, 3951 Woodmere Park Blvd., Venice. The plant sale and bloom competition start at 9 a.m. The full show is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
b. The Sarasota Succulent Society is planning two days of Mother's Day High Tea events on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12, with seatings at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day. High Tea tickets are $18 for members and $20 for guests for the three-course High Tea. The society is also holding its 4th annual Mothers Day Sale that weekend, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Admission is free.
The plant sale and Teas are held on the grounds of the Sarasota Succulent Society, 1310 38th St., at the corner of Myrtle and Cocoanut avenues in Sarasota.
Proceeds are used to maintain and improve the gardens, which are open to the public Mondays from 9 to noon.
