“CANSTRUCTION” AT SOUTHGATE

The local chapter of the American Institute of Architects will hold an unusual charity event called Canstruction on March 1.

Teams of architects, engineers, builders and students will be making sculptures out canned food for display at Southgate Mall until March 10.

After the event, all canned food and proceeds will be donated to All-Faiths Food Bank.

Awards will be given for the sculptures, including Structural Ingenuity, Best Meal and Best Use of Labels.

AIA Florida Gulf Coast will hold its 13th biannual Sarasota Design Conference May 15-17. The event will feature two acclaimed architecture Firms (UK’s Wilkonson Eyre and MASS Design Group of Boston), environmental artist Stacy Levy and futurist David Houle.

Houle, whose is consistently ranked as one of the top futurists and keynote speakers in the world, will discuss “What’s Next: How Architecture Can Contribute to the Future of Society.”

NEW MODEL FOR WCI

WCI Communities is building a second Carriage model home in Venetian Golf & River Club, a 1,039-acre master-planned community located along the Myakka River in Venice.

The three-bedroom, two-bath Corsica design will join the Monaco model as the latest model homes scheduled for completion in April.

NEW MODEL AT UNIVERSITY PARK

John Neal Homes will unveil The Savoy model in the Landsdowne Crescent neighborhood in University Park this weekend. The Savoy is the first model to open in seven years at the gated community on University Parkway.

The one-story Savoy floorplan features 2,547 square feet, three bedrooms, two and half bathrooms, a grand entry, and a den.

John Neal Homes is currently building in Lakewood Ranch, The Concession and University Park.
