Local talent shines at 2014 Aurora Awards

/

Green building is no longer the exclusive domain of “affordable” and mid-market houses.

Upscale projects are incorporating sustainable design and construction principles while retaining all the stunning visual appeal normally associated with high-end home building.

The results were richly rewarded by judges evaluation entries in the 2014 Aurora Awards, presented each year since the 1970s by the Southeast Building Conference in Orlando.

aur2Local builders Josh Wynne, green consultant Drew Smith and architect Jonathan Parks were the beneficiaries of the high-end green trend a week ago, when they brought home multiple awards. Wynne also won the Gold Aurora for the best overall entry in the event. Parks won for his Palm Avenue Parking Garage, while builder Michael Walker won for “Ohana,” Synergy Building won for its Casey Key garden conservatory, and Neal Communities won for its Grand Palm development in Venice.
