Noted and highly successful Sarasota architect Guy Peterson, FAIA, wants everyone to know that, despite the for-sale sign in front of his studio at 1234 First St., he is not retiring.

He simply says it is time to explore possibilities.

That means he hopes to make a profit on the sale of the building in a hot, hot downtown market, and look for less-expensive space elsewhere.

"It is just the right thing for Cindy and I at this time," he said, referring to his wife, who is co-owner of the 1973 building.

The 2,261-square-foot structure, billed as a "timeless contemporary building" by Ian Black Real Estate, is listed at $1.35 million. It sits on 4,860 square feet of land with 8 parking spaces.

The Petersons bought the building in 1996, according to public records, from "Sarasota School of architecture" legend Tim Seibert, FAIA, now retired.

Peterson says he has drawn up plans for a multifamily building that would fit the site, although the current building shows well.
