Carl Abbott speaks Wednesday at Selby Library

/

rDolphinHouse03bSarasota architect Carl Abbott will give a presentation titled "MAYA TO MODERN: Designing with the Land" at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Selby Public Library in downtown Sarasota.

The highly awarded Florida architect reveals connections in his work from studies with both ancient and modern masters. This program is presented in partnership with the Sarasota Architectural Foundation.
Abbott’s fascination with ancient design began during his student days at Yale. He is strongly informed by his experience of the sacred architecture of the ancient civilizations — the manner in which their buildings respond to the land and movement of the sun and stars.

Abbott will show connections in his architecture along with images from his recent work with National Geographic archeologists to reveal the exotic, sophisticated world of the Maya.

Abbott will sign copies of his book "IN/Formed by the Land."
