SAF SETS ONE-DAY HOME TOUR
The Sarasota Architectural Foundation will hold a house tour of architectural firm Halflants + Pichette’s AIA award-winning project on Lido Key. The tour is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at 413 S. Boulevard of the Presidents, Sarasota.
An addition to the renovated house takes advantage of the waterfront location, with a dramatic 30-foot roof that frames the view of Sarasota Bay. Cut-outs in the roof transform the veranda into a three-dimensional sundial when the sun is reflected from the pool onto the ceiling.
The tour will feature remarks by architects Michael Halflants and John Pichette. The firm’s website is StudioForModernArchitecture.com
Admission is $25 for SAF members, $10 for students and $35 for others. Space is limited; register at info@SAF-SRQ.org/events. Proceeds benefit SAF’s Walker Guest House Project at The Ringling. Because of a $25,000 matching grant, all donations will be doubled.
NEAL OPENS NEW COMMUNITY
Neal Communities (nealcommunities.com) will present a “grand opening” event for Windwood, a gated community with 90 homes in north Venice from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
Windwood has 46.3 acres, 53 percent of them dedicated to open space, including 10-acre and 2-acre wetlands and three lakes. On Pinebrook Road just south of Laurel Road, Windwood offers “affordable living with low community fees.”
VAGC TOUR IN MARCH
The 26th Annual Venice Area Garden Club Home tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 13-14.
Included are a 1926 Spanish two-story house on Harbor Drive, a 4,354-square-foot gated home directly on the Gulf, a 2013 home built with green systems and materials, and a renovated 1957 home sitting where the movie theater for 1940 Army pilots once stood.
Also on the tour is Parichat Cartwright’s noteworthy garden featuring Thai influences from her homeland.
