The event offered a rare glimpse at an outstanding group of modernist residential structures, on a one-lane path that is barely navigable.

Paul Rudolph designed the main house in 1957; it remains an icon of his midcentury modern work early in his career.

Toshiko Mori designed a guest house, completed in 1999, and a 2004 addition to the main house. She was at the event, along with the homeowners, Ed and Betsy Cohen, and contractor Michael Walker. Cindy Peterson and CFAS members produced the event.

Mori praised the homeowners and Walker for their meticulous maintenance of the compound, which sits on 4 acres of secluded Gulf-to-bay property.

"It is a real pleasure for an architect to be able to come back to a project several years after it was completed, to see how the houses are being lived in, and families flourishing," Mori said. "And plants taking up roots and blending in with the native specimens. It has been maintained impeccably after so many years. We are honored to be able to come back and see it."
