"Villa Solstice," a mansion of nearly 11,000 square feet, has just come on the market. At $14,900,000, it is the most expensive listing in Sarasota.

Owned by Charles Githler and Kim Githler, the house, built in 2005 on South Shore Drive in Sapphire Shores, has five bedrooms and five and a half baths. With views of the Sarasota skyline to the south, it is elevated and takes up two and a half building lots -- about 1.1 acres.

Nora Johnson of Michael Saunders & Co. has the listing.

She calls it "Sarasota's landmark property," and a "private, resort-like sanctuary."

The sections of the mansion are connected by interior bridges. It has commercial-grade appliances, two elevators and an 11-seat home theater.

The 2011 tax bill was $83,794 on a $5 million tax assessment. Property taxes topped out in 2008 at $109,000 on a $6.9 million assessment.

The most expensive listing in the region is a house on Lindrick Lane in The Concession, a golf-course community in Manatee County. It has 17,756 square feet of interior space and is listed at $16.5 million by Stacy Haas-Goodwin of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate.
